The Maryland Park Service (MPS), in collaboration with Macy’s Department Store’s “Turn Over a New Leaf” campaign, will introduce the Discovery Pack program statewide starting Thursday, April 22, 2010.
The Discovery Pack program stems from multiple Ranger requests for supplies that park visitors can borrow free of cost to further enjoy the park experience. Included in each Discovery Pack is a backpack, an insect and butterfly net, binoculars or a monocular, a Mid-Atlantic Field Guide, a tape measure, a magnifying glass, a nature notebook, colored pencils, and park specific information and activities.
“While it is our top priority to encourage Marylanders to enjoy our beautiful parks, we saw a need to provide the necessary tools and information so they could get the best possible experience,” said MPS superintendent Nina Settina.
The Discovery Packs are free to borrow from the park during regular office hours. Please check with each park in advance for location and availability of the Discovery Packs.
